    Great to see Russell use his brand (no pun intended) to advance our understanding of addictive disease. Russell is correct. Being addiction doctor, neuroscientist and a Christian I have been involved in some exciting research So let make 3 points. 1) People are not addicted to a particular substance or behavior. Rather they are addicted ( have a pathological attachment to) to what elevates their mood via complex neurogenetic process and circuitry involving the primitive hedonic midbrain, (which does not think) and the prefrontal cortex which makes us human, 2.) Inhibiting hedonic survival drives (food water, sex, fight flight) is a result of fully functioning adult brain Addiction usurps this survival drive though the chronic consumption of intoxicants, including things such sex, spending gambling etc... In other words functioning adults can delay gratification based upon their health meeds and moral compass. 3.) The term Reward Deficiency Syndrome (RDS) was coined by my colleague Dr Ken Blum, and affirmed by my mentor Dr Mark Gold and many colleagues. I have been fortunate to co author many article with this research group. RDS includes depression ,anxiety, trauma, stress disorders all of which seek immediate relief, As Russell so eloquently described, many things can cause us pain, Addictive substances and behaviors provide an immediate bolus dose of an endogenous reward cocktail receive the pain and distress but also provides a sense of euphoria and accomplishment far beyond what could be attained via natural reward (a spiritual encounter with God not withstanding) However bolus doses of intoxicants, release more of our feel good chemicals than needed by dipping into the reserves, thus leaving the user in deficit, or overdrawn so to speak, and incrementally the user ends up feeling worse, due to a lack of available neurotransmitters and neurohormones . The addicted persons solution to this discomfort is to use more of what they used yesterday. One step forward ( the acute pain or distress is relieved) 1.5 steps backward . As they have less innate ability to enjoy life. Being intoxicated is like watching a 72 in HD TV. Being sober is like watching a 12 in Black and White TV. Is boring as hell. The insidiousness is, a little voice tells the addict you can just have one or two and stop--- AND GroundHog Day never ends. ---Dr Drew Edwards, Chief Clinical Officer at The Neurogenesis Project

    What is NON ATTACHMENT? People often say... Who CARES.... but it actually not not to Care but it is not to Worry. Non attachment is to be at the center of the infinite balance of all the things happening in life. If you worry about a particular outcome, that means that you are sliding down the negative side of that balance and you will need more and more of a positive outcome to feel "happy" or even to be at a neutral position. What is to accept the "NEGATIVE" outcome : that don't means you are agreeing and resigning with that outcome... That simply means being in the center of the big balance together with the "negative" you are equally accepting the "positive" Peter says: if you accept the "bad" it won't happen , but he doesn't explain why??? BECAUSE the BAD will be extinguished by the GOOD. And because we are an infinite beings coming from a place of infinite loving and bliss , if you sit closer to the center of the balance, this is precise the energy and the field you are constantly receiving, ALWAYS. You just have to tune in to that field. Your mind (the space around you) is the bridge between your infinite ♾ SOUL and your limited BODY. Let your mind to be in tune with your soul and your body will automatically resonate in harmony with your TRUE NATURE ✨

    The anxiety equation is such a beautiful example... meaning: Anxiety = powerlessness × uncertainty Ok lets decompose this... What is Powerlessness It is a negation of the self , if it is a negation it is by definition belonging to the ego (the little scared child in every one of us) What is uncertainty...? It is possibility it is infinite ♾ Can you control infinity...? You can try 😉 but spoiler alert it is exhausting and fruitless . Let's see now ,let's examine powerlessness ... is it true, is that you inherent state 🤔 NO it isn't! You are powerful, you are strong you are potential, you are space of infinite possibility collapsed in a limited body, but you have still potential energy. Let's see now the equation one more time. Anxiety = 0× ♾ .... what is that Anxiety is 0 that means Anxiety is actually SECURITY

    sounds good, but a caloric deficit makes for a slow metabolism, you won't have the energy to exercise and soon will give up the program, then when you give it up you will overeat and gain all the weight back or more, instead go low carb Keto diet and keep your metabolism high while burning your body fat

    I'm also in the anti- gundry sentiments. He's not in the same league as dr's lustig & casey means intellectually, in sophistication and vreativity of thought, and his lengthy track record has shown that he gives teaser info, just enough to hook people in to paying him to get enough info to make a difference. Lustig & Means have consistently been about helping people by generously providing all tge info so people can help themselves and by generously giving time in a ctivism at government levels to effect policy change (and other ways too numerous to mention).

As an energy healer I am very much aware of this. The problem is, that the thinking and reasoning is so compromised in people that they fail to make health bringing and harmonizing decisions... The world system is built on sickness and darkness in the kali yuga.

    Great video, Jillian! I agree wholeheartedly. I feel that I'm one of the lucky ones. I had issues of overweight when I was young. My story is too long to tell here, but I was able to lose it all gradually and keep it off. Because I had to slog it out, and figure it all out over time, the entire subject became a passion of mine. My motive is to stay healthy, but also, to help those I care about or even others I meet. The way I do that is to refer them to resources like your videos and books, or others in the industry that make sense. I admire your commitment and your honesty. You're a voice of sanity in a sea of misinformation!

    I have to respectfully disagree with some of this... to answer the question about obesity not being a problem prior to the 1960's - 1970's, I think we need to look at what happened about that time in our history. That is the time that our government and big food industry started messing with the food supply in search of the almightly dollar. It isn't just the proliferation of processed foods that are calorie dense... with that came chemicals in our foods, hormones given to livestock, and genetic modification of foods away from their natural state. I think it is arguable that all of this manipulation of our food supply that left us ingesting tons of things never meant to be inside our bodies, has wreaked damage on how our bodies and dietary hormones function (or in many of us... no longer function). So I think we can argue that it is a disease of sort... but one of man's own making, and for some of us it may take medication to help our broken digestive systems to manage and reverse obesity, just like other disease processes take medication to address broken body systems.

    I'm Into month 11 of a self-directed commitment to improved health. I'd like to know more about diet specific to my needs. I didn't really address diet and protein scientifically till I googled a formula this week. I do have a good diet that does include junk food that I yo yo and struggle with. At 62 kg, very active 74 yo female I decided to eat 1.4 grams of protein a day per kg of weight equal to 87.82 grams of protein a day. What I found out I saw myself blow up was that I also had to manage fat and calories. I'm thinking too much additional fat. I do have less cravings/munchies with the additional protein. I now know how to read a label and compare protein to calories. There's a lot of steps to deprogram and have better practices.

She should be shamed out of the industry. Yet here you are giving her a platform. Presenting her as someone with a credible history of proper, healthy , sustainable weight loss. Which she most certainly has not earned. Unsubscribing. The fact that you don’t value your subscribers enough to shield them from this opportunistic heathen is enraging.

    Also, using something to make you feel better, is only a temporary high which will not solve the actual problems in your life which are the reasons you run to an addiction. So it's literally wasting your time & life, without it you'd probably be forced to do what you need to do to make your life better

  • @Bee-lc3tz
    @Bee-lc3tz 6 днів тому

    It's not about trying to stop the addiction. It's about fully FACING the reason WHY you are running to the thing you're addicted to in the first place. Yes, you can be addicted to everything. An addiction is anything that you use TO MAKE YOU FEEL BETTER. You are running from your own uncomfortable emotions and your pain. You're trying to use something or someone to make you not have to feel the way you're feeling... It's easy to run away from our uncomfortable and painful emotions in this world, there are a miriad of distractions and things to get you high. Shopping, therapists, friends, candy, chocolate, drugs, television, the Internet, anything! I will tell you the way I stopped my addiction in one day: When you notice yourself grabbing for something to get you high or distract you or make you feel better...STOP and listen to how you are feeling in this moment. Are you feeling bad? JUST SIT WITH AND PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR EMOTIONS IN YOUR BODY. JUST STAY EITH THE PAIN, THE WORRY, THE REGRETS, EVERYTHING YOU MAY BE FEELING. These are what you have been running from. If you simply ACCEPT the way you truly feel in this moment, and pay attention to it for awhile.... eventually the negative feelings will DISSIPATE and you will feel relief.... This is how to SELF SOOTHE. AN ADDICT IS SIMPLY SOMEONE WHO DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO SELF SOOTHE.This is how I stopped my addictions in one day and how I have found inner PEACE ever since then. Just be there with your emotions and accept the way you're feeling even when it is hard, without trying to get high. Be there for YOURSELF. Then keep it up in each moment, attend to & accept how you're feeling.

    My wife of 20 years unexpectedly died 1/5/24 from what seemed to be a mild flu. She seemed happy and normal, just a little under the weather. So I tucked her into her favorite recliner, got her some cold meds, some ice water, a humidifier and her new Christmas blanket. She had her cat on her lap and her dog at her feet. She smiled and said 'Thank you, I love you'. I took our special needs son to the other end of the house to play and hang out so that she could get some peaceful rest. She didn't wake up, she was 52. Trying to perform cpr on a loved one who is clearly gone is something that I wouldn't wish on anyone. Trying to explain to a semi verbal autistic child that Mama is never coming home again is far worse. My wife was an only child. I'm processing and working on my grief for the last 5 months but I remind myself that in the space of 1.5 years her parents lost all of their parents and their only child. Our son is happy and doing well. My world is still in black and white, maybe some sepia bleeding in. The emotional numbness is real and the widow brain fog is pretty epic. Our closest relatives, other than the inlaws, are 1100 miles away. I have to sell our house, no longer a home, and move to be closer to them so that we have some backup. My wife picked out this property and loved it fiercely so it really hurts to leave this place, I wish that we didn't have to. But I fell off of a ladder last summer and spent 2 months on crutches, there's no way that I can do that now and take care of our son on my own. If something happens to me I need someone that I trust close by to help with our son. He needs 24/7 supervision. I hate to use the analogy but its a Rainman kind of situation, a semi verbal savant. We had to put double sided high security deadbolts on all the exterior doors because he picks regular locks, once with a cardboard stick from a sucker other times with hair pins and random junk. My wife had to stop using hair pins. During the pandemic lockdowns the kids were issued ipads for remote schooling, he hacked the entire school district with the basic ipad, muted the teachers, locked out administration and made everyone watch him dancing around his bedroom for a couple of hours. We got calls. After they hired techs to amp up and max out their cybersecurity he did it again. Not to mention he only sleeps 4-6 hours per day, my wife and I slept in shifts to cover. He's a great kid and has gone very easy on me since his mother died but we need the security of family nearby. The situation is no bueno, but it is what it is. Ironically, of all the things that I miss the most about my wife, I miss the conversations that we never had. Every time I see something interesting in the news or our son does something cool I turn to tell her about it, but she's gone. So many little things that we shared every day, now kaput. So many memories that nobody else on the planet remembers now. The hugs, kisses, touches, seeing her with our son are all things that I mourn. But the thing that gets me the most is the conversations that we'll never have or never finish. Not liking this grief stuff, not one bit.

    I'm still debating about the way the therapist approached this issue over the method itself. I couldn't finish it (that likely would mean I would want to walk away). Starting by asking "Is it true?" to someone who is absolutely terrified and trying to make sense of her past of evident abuse is not helpful. It's true in behavioral methods, that our thoughts influence our feelings and we can tell ourselves in the present moment that we are safe; but to say that someone (a caregiver) who has harmed us repeatedly without any form of agency growing up isn't a contribution to our issues is super invalidating. This method works outside of the context--the client likely feels fear towards people who remind her of her mom. I would have acknowledged the feelings and that she was harmed and explored how those emotions manifest in the present day and not immediately jump to how her thoughts are the problem and not it being her mom. Someone who's been emotionally/physically abused has dealt with enough invalidation of their own reality.
